The Vows
|
|
|
|
I think it's great when a
couple write their own vows but understand that is not easy for everyone.
Following are some examples that you can either adapt or use as they are. |
|
|
|
A |
Tom
I Tom (surname) take you Mary (surname) to be my wife
I promise to love you completely
To console and comfort you during difficult times
To encourage you to achieve your full potential
To laugh with you and to grieve with you
To share with you life's simplest but most enduring pleasures
To be truthful and honest with you
And to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.

Tom
I, Tom (surname) take you Mary (surname)
to be my wife, my partner in life and my one true love.
I will cherish our friendship and love you today,
tomorrow, and forever.
I will trust and honor you
I will laugh and cry with you.
I will love you faithfully
Through the best and the worst,
Through the difficult and the easy.
Whatever may come I will always be there.
As I have given you my hand to hold
So I give you my life to keep
This is my promise today.

Do you promise to love her and share your life openly and honestly with her,
respect her as an individual, honour and cherish her through the good times
and the hard times, and be faithful to her always?
Tom: "I do".

Following on from 'About Marriage' Section E
So Tom, I ask you now, will you take Mary to be your wife?
Will you love and cherish her?
Will you uphold and encourage her?
Will you be loyal and true to her?
Will you honour and respect her as an equal partner in life?
Will you give her your deepest devotion?
Tom: I will.
Mary the man who stands by your side is about to become your husband.
He will look to you for gentleness, for support, for understanding, for
encouragement, and for protection.
You must never take him for granted, but be continually sensitive to his
needs. Your life and love will become Tom’s greatest source of joy.
So Mary, I ask you now, will you take Tom to be
your husband?
Will you love and cherish him?
Will you uphold and encourage him?
Will you be loyal and true to him?
Will you honour and respect him as an equal partner in life?
Will you give him your deepest devotion?
Tom, please repeat after me:
“I, Tom (surname) take you Mary (surname) to be my wife
to have and to hold,
from this day forward.
for better for worse,
for richer for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and cherish,
all the days of my life.”
